From feeding your trees to goats or taking to the Streets Department, here are green solutions for your tree. Just don’t leave your trees curbside.

Looking to give your Christmas tree a new life, or at least not be destined for the landfill?

Here are a few solutions on where to recycle your Christmas Tree in Philadelphia for the 2022-2023 holiday season.

Free solutions: Philadelphia Streets Department Drop-off

Take your Christmas trees to any six Sanitation Convenience Centers to be composted throughout the city. Just make sure your holiday trees are free of all decorations and untied. 

Drop-off dates: Tuesday, January 3 through Saturday, January 14.

Drop-off times: Monday-Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Streets Department also offers drop-off sites on Saturday, January 7th and Saturday, January 14th from 9 AM to 3 PM at the following locations:

Feed your tree to goats

The Philly Goat Project has tree recycling with goats on Saturday, January 7th (rain date, Jan 8th) and Saturday, January 21st (rain date, Jan 22nd). Your trees will become snacks for goats and/or be turned into wood chips for city trails and community gardens.

Requested donation: $20 goes to Philly Goat project’s year-round programming.

Get your tree picked up curbside

Use a private service to get your tree picked up curbside.

Circle Compost offers curbside tree pickup on January 7-8 or January 14-15th for $20

South Philly Green is offering curbside pickups for zipcodes 19145 & 19146 on January 8th & 14th for $15. They’ll also have drop-offs open at Guerin Rec Center on Jan 8th (12-3 PM) and Manton Green on Saturday, January 14th from 10 AM-3 PM for a suggested donation of $5.
