Where to compost (“recycle”) your leaves in Philly – 2022

The city is using a mechanical leaf collection in select neighborhoods; otherwise bagged leaves can be dropped off M-S.

It’s not only pumpkin spice season: it’s the leaf-dropping season.

The Philadelphia leaf recycling (aka composting) program is back for 2022.

The City of Philadelphia is hosting a 6-week mechanical leaf collection with leaf blowers, mechanical sweepers and leaf loaders in areas with heavier accumulation. Leaves should be raked by the curb’s edge and ready for collection by 7 AM on the day of mechanical collection. See below for the full schedule.

Bagged Leaf Drop-Off

Residents can collect leaves in biodegradable paper bags and dropped off at any of the City’s six Sanitation Convenience Centers, Monday through Saturday from 8a-6p. Residents can purchase bags at hardware stores – no bags are provided by the Streets Department. No recycling or trash should be included in the paper bags.
