Residents can dispose of Hazardous Waste across the city.

Do you have old oil base paint, used oil, solvents, pesticides, car batteries, sitting around your house? You can’t just throw it out with your trash.

The Streets Department has three upcoming hazardous waste drop-off events at Streets’ Sanitation Convenience Centers. From 9 am to 3 pm, you can drop off your hazardous waste on these dates at these locations:

• Friday, October 23rd at 8401 State Road
• Saturday, October 24th at 8401 State Road
• Saturday November 7th at 3901 Delaware Avenue

One new requirement for 2020: You must register for one of the 15-minute time slots in order to get an email confirmation, that you should keep handy and bring it on the day of your appointment. Wait in your car for the Streets Department staff to come to you. Don’t forget to bring proof of your Philadelphia residency like an ID.

Remember: Any material with the label toxic, flammable, corrosive, or reactive is considered hazardous waste and should be handled and disposed of properly. Mothballs, artist paint, fire extinguishers, aerosol cans, and toilet bowl cleaners all may seem like regular everyday household objects but are all need to be disposed of properly. It may seem like no big deal, but just one gallon of used oil can contaminate one million gallons of fresh water.
