Good news – the Bicycle Coalition of Philadelphia revealed in their Cyclegram that bikers in Philadelphia have gone up again in 2011, (hopefully) maintaining our title as the country’s highest bike-commuting city.

How do the stats compare in 2011?

Between 2010 & 2011, there was a 6.4% increase of Bikes crossing the Schyukill River bridges. 291 bikes per hour during rush hour crown South St Bridge as the most heavily-used in the city of brotherly love.

More ammo for the bike lanes: Use has escalated up 127% on Spruce Street, and 130% on Pine Street since 2006.  Instances of sidewalk riding have plummeted to 7% from 24% in 2006.  Bike rates have also decreased 25% on Broad St (probably using the fancy striped 13th street lanes) in the last year.

Philly bikers, keep on biking. Don’t think those SUV’s have more of a right to be on the road than you do.
