Need some fresh plants in your life? TreePhilly is back for 2013!

Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, Fairmount Park Conservancy and Wells Fargo paired up for the Spring 2013 TreePhilly giveaway. Now through March 31st, any Philadelphia property owner can request a free yard tree on their private property.

New additions to the 2013 giveaway include:

• Yard tree giveaway totals increase to 5000 trees (2500 this Spring alone).
• Philadelphia residential property owners can request up to 2 trees (from 1)
• Community groups that own large properties with community access (like faith-based institution and senior centers) can request up to 10 trees.
• Participants can choose from 9 pickup locations during a choice of 7 days in April.

Just like last year, participants can participate in tree planting and care demonstrations (to ensure a healthy foliage child) and receive a raffle ticket for a free tree watering bag. Free mulch is available at the pickup as well. As Michael DiBerardinis, Deputy Mayor for Environmental and Community Resources mentioned,

“With the continued support of our great partners and building off the tremendous success of last year’s TreePhilly campaign, the 2013 TreePhilly campaign will enable even more Philadelphia property owners to receive free trees and learn about the numerous benefits of planting trees.”

Did you know all the trees we’re adding can save 24,144,215 lbs of CO2 yearly? TreePhilly launched by Mayor Michael Nutter last year to invest in citizens who can take responsibility and assist our city’s future. You can check all the additions (and add yours!) to the Philly Tree Map, which will soon have an iPhone app.

Ready for your free tree? Fill out the application on the Philadelphia Parks & Recreation website. Dates & locations for pickups include:

• Sun. April 7th, 11am-1pm, New Kensington CDC Garden Center (1825 Frankford Ave. 19125)
• Thurs. April 11th, 4:30-6:30pm, Haddington Library (446 N 65th St. 19151)
• Sat. April 13th, 10am-12pm, Columbus Square Playground (1200 Wharton St. 19147)
• Sat. April 13th, 10am-12pm, Pennypack Environmental Center (8600 Verree Rd. 19115)
• Sat. April 13th, 1-3pm, Pennypack Environmental Center (8600 Verree Rd. 19115)
• Sat. April 13th, 3-5pm, Pennypack Environmental Center (8600 Verree Rd. 19115)
• Sun. April 14th, 2-4pm, West Oak Lane Library (2000 Washington Lane, 19138)
• Sat. April 20th, 12-2pm, Hunting Park Recreation Center (900 Hunting Park Ave. 19140)
