Springtime in Philly: Green Events

Spring has been very busy for the Green community in Philly – Here are a couple of events in the next week:phillyspring

Want to help a local school win a Hybrid bus & become America’s Greenest School?

  • Our Lady of Sacred Heart (OLSH) has received a Green Power Award for a Gold LEED renovationof their school including solar panels on the roof, conserving water in bathrooms and planting native plants on the school site. Next, they’re hoping to achieve the title of America’s Greenest School.  Vote online for Brianna, age 18, on America’s Greenest School website until May 17th.

Thirsty ?

  • Vegan Drinks Philly is meeting on May 18th from 5:30-9:30 PM at Horizons Restaurant on 611 S. 7th St. Enjoy live music with animal lovers!

Yearn to participant in Philly’s Green Political Scene?

  • Monday, May 18th from 9-11:30 AM, US Representatives Allyson Schwartz, Robert Brady & Chaka Fattah will have a Congressional hearing to explore Green Infrastructure & Federal Policy to revitalize cities, improve water and air quality and create green collar jobs.   Experts including Mayor Nutter, PECO, Philadelphia Water Department, Energy Coordinating Agency and more will testify to promote potential opportunities for Congress to help Philly implement greening projects such as controlling storm water, improve quality of life in urban areas and economic standings.
