There’s been a ton going on in green news lately, so here are some updates & links for you to get a recap.

Recent Green Philly News for January 6 2014:

• Lori Braunstein was named ‘Best Ambassador” by the USGBC (US Green Building Council)’s Center for Green Schools. Her accomplishments include 100 Green Apple of Day of Service Projects (with 6000 participants), partnering with Youthbuild Philadelphia with DVGBC mentors and developing a free Student Energy Conservation Toolkit with the Phila School district. Braunstein is director for Green Schools at the Delaware Valley Building Council & leads the South Jersey chapter of Green Drinks.

•  Broad Street this year? The Fairmount Park Conservancy will offer a limited number of spots to runners who register and commit to raising a minimum of $500 for the organization. Fund go to restore the Belmont Plateau cross country course & Philadelphia Parks & Rec. • Kathleen O’Brien talked about Greenbuild 2013 in Philadelphia on the DJC Green Building blog. O’Brien  (whom we met while sitting next to her waiting for Hillary Clinton to speak) has covered green building & sustainable development and gave an awesome summary of Greenbuild 2013’s highlights.   
• The Passyunk Avenue Revitalization Corporation (PARC) had a huge composting initiative to pick up leaves and compost with the Dirt Farm in West Philly this past fall. This was separate than the city-run program, emphasizing greening on a super-local level (and the largest neighborhood compost program to date). (photo above.)
• Hip City Veg has announced catering AND delivery from both of their locations. So when the weather outside is frightful, just pick up the phone and have them deliver to your home, office or dorm room. Lucky us!
• Philadelphia Housing Authority has announced a goal of 20% of energy reduction by 2020 for the President’s Better Buildings Challenge with the The U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. It’s going to accomplish this goal by applying to new construction & retrofit projects, as well as some energy product standards. We’ll be watching!
