Kayaking, Green drinks & Urban Riding Basics: Green Week Guide 9/2 – 9/4

Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone is relaxed after that three day weekend! There was a definitely ton to do, between Paddleboard Yoga and Wellness Walks, but if you’re looking for something to liven up the week as well, we’ve got a bunch of great events for you! Here are some great, green events to try this week:

    Guided Wildflower Walks: Come explore Bowman’s Wildflower Reserve in a whole new way with their Guided Wildflower Walks! Guests will learn about the Reserve’s history, habitats, and plant interactions while being guided through Bowman’s picturesque gardens. Tours are free with admission! Tuesday, September 2nd, 2 – 3 PM, 1635 River Road, New Hope.

  • Schuylkill Movie Night: Enjoy a free movie, snacks, beverages, and raffles this Tuesday by the river! Grab a blanket and some friends and come watch the movie Karate Kid under the stars! Tuesday, September 2nd, 6:30 PM, Grays Ferry Crescent Esplanade (Schuylkill Ave & Wharton Street).
  • Urban Riding Basics: Ever wonder how cyclists navigate the streets of Philly so confidently? Learn how you can too, plus more, at this one hour class. The class is free, plus you don’t even need to bring a bike! RSVP online soon – spots are limited! Wednesday, September 3rd, 6 – 7 PM, 211 South Columbus Blvd.
  • Green Drinks: Come out to talk, network, and problem-solve with other people in your green community! Bring a friend and come get connected while enjoying some great food and drinks! Wednesday, September 3rd, 6 – 8 PM, 200 South Street.

    Herbs, Health, and Happy Hour: Jacob Thomas, arboretum director of the Barnes Foundation, will talk to guests about plants that were used in cultures such as China and India as herbal medicines. Stay after and enjoy the herb garden as well as a unique happy hour. Register online for just $25! Wednesday, September 3rd, 5:30 – 7 PM, 19 South 22nd Street.

  • Kayak Tours: Looking for something outdoorsy to do this week? This Thursday the Schuylkill Banks is offering professionally guided kayak tours of the Schuylkill River! The tour even includes a brief, half hour lesson before you set off! Register online for just $40! Thursday, September 4th, 6:45 – 8:45 PM, Walnut Street Dock.

Catharine was an Editorial Intern in 2014. From growing up in Damascus, Maryland to studying Marketing and Finance at Saint Joseph’s University, she got her first taste of sustainability in Elementary School when her mother went on a recycling binge and got the family on board. She assumes she'll probably be something like that when she grows up, too. She loves her other roles as a Resident Assistant and barista at Starbucks.
