Arbor Day – 7 Ways to Celebrate Philly Trees

Yard bombing tree philadelphiaHappy Arbor Day! This annual day (typically the last Friday in April) celebrates planting, caring for and loving trees.

Although we love trees every day, we still honor our plants on this holiday.  Plus, there ain’t a better place to celebrate everything trees than in Philadelphia, where any day is an excuse to drink locally and hang out with friends.

Here’s 7 Ways to Celebrate Arbor Day in Philly:

  1. TreePhilly. This Philadelphia Parks & Recs program provides FREE trees to Philly residents, in part of the Greenworks Philadelphia & Plant One Million Campaigns.
  2. Have a local beer & celebrate Arbrew Day! Tree Philly, Fairmount Park Conservancy & Yards Brewery are hosting an Arbrew Day in 5 bars across the city with specials on Yards, free trees, t shirts & prizes. Head on over to the City Tap House, Kite & Key, Frankford Hall, Bourbon Blue and Grey Lodge for specials today from 4:30- 8 PM.
  3. Shout a congrats to the Plant One Million is planting its 300,000th tree today at the St. Hubert Catholic High School for Girls! Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Tree Tenders will continue the celebration and plant more than 800 trees throughout the Philadelphia region this weekend. Congrats PHS for this awesome effort!
  4. Hang out at the Morris Arboretum to learn everything about trees with friends and family. Saturday, April 26 from 11 AM – 3 PM, 100 E. Northwestern Avenue, Chestnut Hill.
  5. Participate in a cleanup like the Darby Creek, Wissahickon East Annual Creek Cleanup or the Honey Hollow Watershed.
  6. Go for a hike to appreciate our local parks and trees.
  7. Explore the city trees with a friend and look for yard bombings.
