Bike Expo, HazWaste & Cleanups, Oh my! Weekend Events 11/7 – 11/9

What a week! After the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability became permanent, Mayor Nutter topped off the excitement by creating a Philadelphia Bicycle Advocacy Board to make our city more bike friendly. Whoa!

And have you snagged a ticket to the Green Philly/Nexus Big Green Party yet?

Let’s move on to the best excitement: TGIF! And because we can’t stop, won’t stop; Here’s what you can look forward to over the weekend.

Philly Weekend events for November 7 -9th:

  • Philly Bike Expo: One of our fav events of the year! Start your day off right with Valet Bike Parking from Neighborhood Bike Works, find bike & bike accessories, local orgs, seminars and more. Nov 8th, 10 AM – 6 PM & 9th 10 AM – 4 PM; PA Convention Center, 1101 Arch St; Hall E (Broad St Entrance). Website. Basic entrance starts at $8.
  • Fairmount Fall Cleanup: Cleanup the Fairmount neighborhood and get to see the old penitentiary for free! Plus food, beer & more. How could you NOT volunteer? Saturday, November 8th 10 AM – 1 PM;  Meet at 22nd & Brown; More details.
  • Household Hazardous Waste Drop off Day: Drop off your hazardous waste like antifreeze, moth balls, gasoline, oil-based paints (and spray paints), lithium & NiCad batteries, and basically any other products with labels like “toxic”, “flammable” and “reactive” so the Streets Department can deal with them. Saturday, November 8th from 9 AM – 3 PM (rain or shine); 3901 Delaware Avenue, between Castor & Lewis (Near Allegheny Exit of I-95); Streets Department website.
  • Empowering Tea & Fashion Show: Join the Career Wardrobe for afternoon tea, fundraising auction & fashion show in this benefit. Career Wardrobe is celebrating 19 years of helping women to transforming their lives in new found independence. Sunday, November 9, 1-4 PM, Hyatt at The Bellevue, 200 S Broad St, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19102; Tickets.
  • Good Food America: featuring Strangelove’s: Salivate over local vegetarian dishes including Vegan Chilaquiles & Rolled Eggplant stuffed with quinoa on Z Living TV. Why not celebrate local, delicious restaurants from the comfort of your couch? Sunday, November 9th, 9 PM.
