A couple years ago, I read “Skinny Bitch” and decided to cut most of the meat and artificial crap in foods from my diet. While I like to jokingly call myself ‘a part time vegetarian’, I’ve gotten down to an average 1-2 meals with meat per week total – I’ve been making the transition so I’ll only be eating free-range meat when tempted.
Skinny Bitch polarizes people – Once read, you either become obsessed Love or Hate it. But authors Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin stuff pro-vegan facts into a witty-read, helping you recognize what you’re eating to make better food choices. Plus, this book has tons of references and resources for you to know where they’re getting the DL.
Although encouraged, you don’t HAVE to become Vegan to read the book – You can make healthy choices such as cutting out coffee, artificial sweeteners, pesticides & other chemicals from your diet. For example, take Soda. It has high levels of phosphorous – that can lead to calcium loss – or bone loss (osteoporosis.) Diet soda isn’t much better – Aspartame has been blamed for arthritis, birth defects, diabetes, and multiple sclerosis. Methyl Alcohol (a component of aspartame) enters your body and turns into formaldehyde – not exactly appealing when you can drink delicious natural juices such as Naked Juice or make an all-natural smoothie, is it? (As further encouragement, I even convinced my Dad to read it – and he enjoyed it!)
