Philadelphia Environmental Film Fest: Must-See Earth Day Weekend

Move over, Sundance! A new film festival is coming to the city of Brotherly Love.

The Philadelphia Environmental Film Festival will take over the Prince Theater on Earth Day weekend. The range of films highlight some of the most pressing sustainability issues of 2017.

The film festival is founded by Debra Wolf Goldstein, a Philadelphia-based environmental attorney, of West Mt. Airy and Alexandra Drobac Diagne of Wyncote.

Our region is full of people who are passionate about parks, healthy food, and sustainability. We felt it was high time for Philadelphia to have its own environmental film fest!” says executive director Debra Wolf Goldstein.

What You’ll See at Philadelphia environmental film fest

What can you watch? The films range from documentaries to fiction, several minutes to full length for all ages.

A few of films we’re looking forward to include:

  • Before the Flood: Leonardo DiCaprio and Fisher Stevens travel to five continents and the Arctic to witness climate change firsthand. He probably showed it to Ivanka who didn’t care, but you will!
  • Corks: A short by an Aussie artist who solely uses recycled materials (like wine corks) in sculptures.
  • Water & Power: A California Heist: The drought in California has made headlines for years, but there’s another quieter battle going on. Who owns our water?
  • Plastic is Forever: In the Youth Block, 14-year-old filmmaker Dylan D’Haeze shows how plastic affects our planet. This is crucial for all plastic consumers (i.e. all of us).
