5 Free Events, Ice Cream & Nature: Weekend Guide: 7/18 – 7/20

Hurray! You made it to the weekend! Now what?

Whether you’re looking to go on a hike, pick berries, or learn to cook, we rounded out the best weekend events for you!

Here’s what’s on the calendar this July 18th:

  • Seedlings Parent & Child Outdoor Program: Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education is hosting parent-and-child activities to promote nature and environmental awareness on Friday, July 18th. Children, ages 2-5, will join in nature-inspired activities and get a sneak peak of the Nature Preschool from 2-3pm. Adult participation and pre-registration is required. Tickets cost $6 for members and $8 for non-members.
  • Farmer’s Market Kick-Off Party: The Ward AME Community Farmer’s Market is celebrating it’s opening on Saturday, July 19th, from 10am-2pm at44th and Brown Street. The party includes cooking demonstrations, a Moonbounce and kids activities, food trucks, health coaches and nutrition advice, food samples, and fresh and affordable veggies! Admission is free.
  • Saturdays @SCEE: The Schuylkill Center is once again hosting naturalist-led exploration on their trails on July 19th. Children will be able to study different objects from nature and take a walk in the woods from 10:30am–11:30am. Admission is free.
  • Wineberry Harvest: The Schuylkill Center is holding its summertime tradition of picking wineberries along their trails on Saturday, July 19th. Admission is free; participants are asked to meet at the main building at 10am before hitting the trails. Remember to bring something to put your harvest in!
  • Restoration Volunteer Workday: The Schuylkill Center is searching for volunteers to help remove invasive plants from our forest, fix deer fences, and maintain their trails on July 19th from 10am-12pm. Its encouraged to wear long pants and sturdy boots. Bring a water bottle; water refills and snacks are provided.
  • Sidewalk Sizzle and Ice Cream Freeze at Reading Terminal Market: includes ice cream eating contests, ice cream shuffleboard, arts & crafts and 13 delicious market vendors. Admission to the festival is free, pay as you go for the tasty eats. Saturday, July 19th, 10 AM – 4 PM, Reading Terminal Market (12th & Filbert).
