Giveaway: Win 2 tickets to Visions of Arcadia at Philadelphia Art Museum!

Visions of Arcadia at the Philadelphia Art MuseumArcadia has long been the idea of earthly paradise & wilderness, captured by artists. The Philadelphia Art Museum currently has their own Visions of Arcadia: Gauguin, Cézanne, Matisse exhibition running now through September 3.

Three of these mural-sized paintings capture the theme of a mystical place of contentment and harmony, setting the tone of foundations of modern art. This exhibit is exclusive to Philadelphia and includes masterpieces by Picasso, Gleizes, and Signac.

Want to experience this for yourself? We’re giving away pairs of VIP tickets (which means no set entry time) to 2 lucky readers!

In order to enter, leave a comment below about your own vision of Arcadia. Do you prefer the great outdoors? Flower arrangements at Longwood Gardens? How about the landscape of Southern France? We’ll pick 1 winner on Friday and draw another lucky name at end of day Tuesday.

  1. I think all of the images in “Visions of Arcadia” make up the whole. However I do prefer the paintings with people/abstract people.

  2. For me it’s strolling around Haverford College’s beautiful forested campus with my lovely wife.

  3. Arcadia – long expanse of untouched woods with the sun shining and the leaves glistening.

  4. January 1st, 2000, 3am. Center City Philadelphia. The city in euphoric haze. Booze flowing freely, fireworks dazzling, and smiles all around. Pure secular magic!

  5. For me the local Beauty of The garden of sculpture in Hamilton NJ is my local Zen. It is there, at that moment I am in Monet’s garden overlooking the pond with its lotuses in bloom. Enhanced with a glass of Malbec it is simply heaven!

  6. I’ve come across many places in the Delaware Valley that would describe my “Vision of Arcadia”. From the babbling brooks in South Jersey where we take day-long kayaking trips to the expansive mountains of the Poconos where we can traverse the trails that the Lenni Lenape used to walk, I love anywhere that I can sit amongst the wilderness as time passes by ever so slowly. We live in such a wonderful area that I am forever grateful to have a closeness to the urban life as well as the wild that so many will never know. We are all surrounded by Arcadia, we just need to take the time to enjoy it.

  7. Hi John –

Our first winner was selected (from Random.org) as Commenter #3 Steven. Please keep entering since we’ll have another drawing on Tuesday. (John, did you want that to count as an entry?)

    Thanks!

  8. When I think of Arcadia, I think of the seaside and a garden in abandon, like the seaside towns of Cinque Terre in Liguria, Italy, with passionflowers and poppies ablaze in the sun.

  9. Riding the El to Girard recently, caught a glimpse of a vacant lot surrounded by graffiti. Got off the train, tracked down the lot, and was quietly immersed in excellent urban art. Talk about foundations of modern art!

  10. My vision of Arcadia is not of a manicured garden, but of an unspoiled wilderness — uncorrupted by civilization.

As amazing as Longwood Gardens is (especially with Light: Installations by Bruce Munro), it’s a taming of nature. Arcadia, idyllic and Eden-like, would be balanced yet bountiful.
