What’s the Deal with Jim Kenney & Phil Rinaldi?

As we mentioned in our 2015 Mayoral Election Guide, Jim Kinney has a super green agenda. But one thing keeps popping up in the Sustainability Scene: Why does Kenney have the ties with Phil Rinaldi of Philadelphia Energy Solutions (aka the “Energy Hub” ringleader)?

A recently formed coalition calling themselves “Bright Philly Future” recently approached Kenney with their concerns. According to their website,

There has been some concern expressed in environmental circles about the presence of Phil Rinaldi, CEO of Philadelphia Energy Solutions, on Jim’s Policy Committee. We also were concerned about this and asked for a meeting with Jim and his policy chief, which turned out to be extremely productive.

Our team of representatives from interfaith groups, environmental groups, labor & business, all opposed to the dirty energy hub, new pipelines, dangerous oil trains, and fracking, found Kenney most willing to listen to us as we educated him and his team about the moral issues around climate change as well as the value of green investment over fossil fuel investment in creating jobs without sacrificing clean air, clean water and clean food.

  1. This is good news. I like Kenney and find him very personable when I have had the chance to speak with him on the campaign trail thus far. The only thing that had been giving me pause is his association with the man who is making our air so dirty here in Philly (but who lives in Jersey) and looks like he wants to send us back into the darkest ages of the industrial revolution if we let him.

  2. James Kenny intentionally ignored environmental felonies and colluded to cover up demolition with no permits and excavation (with no permits) of the contaminated site in E. Mt Airy with no legal environmental procedure for years. He put politics above human life and health and colluded with committing years of crimes against the neighbor who was displaced from her home by doctors order and health problems and continued retaliation crimes against her for years. He pretended to not know much about demolition problems in Philadelphia when the deaths at Market Street happened. He had been hearing about demolition problems and given solutions for years and he ignored them in favor of terrorizing the neighbor to that reckless project that went on in dangerous manner for over 7 years. Putting neighbor in hospital over and over. The injury done to neighbor is not over and neither is this corruption by the City of Philadelphia. Kenny and many others colluded to put politics and cronyism with irresponsible developers over human life and have caused death as a result. I have written an affidavit and attached evidence and sent to varied agents and sources. Sooner or later the top levels of Phila.gov will be exposed for their crimes, manipulations, lies and worse.
