Philadelphia summers are already hotter. But this year may be on the ‘cooler’ side for what’s to come.
As Philadelphia continues to become hotter and wetter due to climate change, new projections by Climate Central predict summer temperatures like Shreveport, Louisiana.
Philadelphia will also experience more days with temperatures above 100 degrees as the century goes on, due to climate change.
Nationally, city summers will increase by 8°F by 2100. 16 US cities would be more similar to present-day temperatures in the Middle East and Egypt. Phoenix is projected to become 7.2 °F warmer, with summers more like Al Mubarraz, Saudi Arabia.
With warmer temperatures, extreme heat, health risks and strains to local economies are additional risks.
