Nominations for SustainPHL Open Today

As we recently announced, Green Philly Blog is hosting the first ever SustainPHL, an awards ceremony and celebration of sustainability visionaries to unsung heroes making a difference in their communities. This event will reflect on our city’s collective accomplishments on its journey to becoming “the greenest city in the country,” as well as how attendees can get involved in that journey.

We’re excited that you can submit nominations for SustainPHL starting today at 10 AM on http://bit.ly/SustainPHL.  We’ll accept nominations until June 2, 2016 at 8 PM ET.

Who should you nominate?

Think of those individuals, businesses, nonprofit, and civic/government organizations who are making a difference towards a more sustainable Philadelphia. Whether it’s a business that champions sustainability or your neighbor who organizes a monthly clean-up without recognition, we want to hear about the best locally.

Nominees should be based in the greater Philadelphia area and make an impact on the environment, social impact or civic causes.

What is considered “sustainable”?

We want to incorporate a wider definition of sustainability beyond carbon emissions or recycling. Obviously, these things are important – but there’s also a level of social and civic sustainability.

How are people empowering their community to improve local lives? Eliminating hazardous materials in consumer products for cleaner alternatives? Helping community members transition to sustainable careers?

We’d love to hear about these inspiring stories.

Nominations Advisors

How do we know what organizations are changing sustainability for our city? We decided to go to the brightest local experts.

We’re excited to introduce a Nomination Advisory Committee, which will help us define sustainability for vetting nominees. They’ll also Nomination Advisors will assist in creating the nominee qualifications and will vote on the finalists.

Organizations on the Nomination Advisory Committee include:

  • The Philadelphia Office of Sustainability
  • Sustainable Business Network
  • Delaware Valley Green Building Council
  • Climate & Urban Systems Partnership (CUSP) Philadelphia
