Quick Tip: Save Energy, Easy Cooking

Use a toaster oven for smaller meals and snacks, you’ll use a third to half as much energy as your regular oven uses.

Still need to use a conventional oven, like for baking a cake (for Beth’s birthday today – JH)?  No need to preheat as many recipes suggest.  And try turning off the oven 10 to 15 minutes before you finish cooking. Food will continue to cook without using extra electricity.

  1. I’ve been reading that microwaving is the most efficient way to heat food, followed by stove top (any fuel) and toaster ovens last – unless, of course, you want to make toast. You’re probably correct that toaster ovens use less energy than full-sized ovens. What’s your source?
