Friday Quickie: Volunteering on Earth Day & Year-round

Earth Day is this Sunday (obviously.). Philadelphia had a city-wide cleanup effort this past weekend,  but that doesn’t mean you should wait for a city-wide initiative  to volunteer.

Instead of hosting a birthday or holiday party at home, organize a volunteer outing to a local park or community garden. Philadelphia has a lot of green space (and litter), so start with a community park or number of blocks. Instead of party favors, email guests a photo thank you from the event and info for how to stay involved.

Go ahead, and set an example.  There’s many groups like United by Blue which host community cleanups in Philly, Pennsauken, NJ & Ocean City NJ throughout the season.

Trying to organize? Feel free to email your events to us (greenphillyblog @ gmail)  so we can add them to the blog calendar and help get the word out!
