Quick Tip – Weekday Lunch Ideas

Lunch-breaks are always a nice interruption to your chaotic work-days.  Trying to green your midday dining?

  • Try packing your lunch.  You’ll save some cash as well as takeout materials when you buy ingredients  & prepare your own meal.
  • Of course  there are times when you need fresh air and a break from the office. Head to a local restaurant or cafe. Huge portions are par for the course these days, so avoid wasting by taking your leftovers home. Many restaurants give plastic conatiners  that can be washed & re-used for your packed lunches for the rest of the week.
  • If  you get takeout ask for least amount of packaging. Avoid plastic bags or silverware when you can, and keep a stash of silverware/cups/etc at your desk so you can re-use your own.

  1. I also have begun keeping a bowl, plate, fork, knife and spoon at my office. i no longer use the paper or plastic stuff. I just use mine that I brought and wash them in the sink downstairs. But I still use papertowels….

  2. Hey Rhodeygirl,
Those are steps in the right direction!
Using papertowels and napkins is a hard habit to break beacuse they’re so convenient.

It’s a little tougher at work, but you could bring in a “fancy” cloth napkin from home and feel like your treating yourself to a special lunch (you might risk some ridicule from co-workers,but it’s for the greater good!)

Or, if you’re in a position to influence your companies purchasing habits encourage them to buy paper products made from recycled materials and/or unbleached paper towels.

    Beth
