Although there are plenty of beautiful running and hiking trails to explore in Philadelphia, it’s nice to experience new scenery. Running and hiking in the suburbs can be an entirely different experience from the city. 

If you’re looking for that escape this summer, Bucks County is an excellent place to start. Here are some of the beautiful trails and parks to explore.

6 Best Bucks County Trails & Parks

1. Central Park – This used to be one of my favorite places to visit when I was younger. Not only are there trails to explore and hike in in this 108-acre park, but there are soccer fields and tennis courts to play on as well. If you have children this is also a great place to take them. The park is host to ‘Kids Castle,’ a wooden play-castle where kids can maze through and pretend to be royalty for a day.

2. Core Creek Park – There’s something for everyone here. You can bike, hike, boat, play tennis, and bring your dog to play at the park, too! With 1,185 acres of land, there is no shortage of activities.

3. Delaware Canal Towpath – The towpath is a 60-mile trail which bikers and runners can both enjoy. The views from the towpath are incredible. Mostly surrounded by trees and running alongside the Delaware Canal, this path is one of my favorites.

4. Ralph Stover State Park – This is a great trail for the more adventurous folks. There are areas for rock climbing as well as hiking that ranges from beginner to advanced. If you stay on the designated path, you can enjoy a peaceful walk through the forested park. If you decide to make the hike to the creek below the trails, you can find the Ringing Rocks which actually make a ringing sound when you strike them with a hammer.

5. Nockamixon State Park – This park has several trails to choose from depending on how intense you want your hike to be. The trails range in distance from 1 to 13 miles, and in difficulty from beginner to advanced. If you’re not in the mood for a hike, rent a paddleboat or canoe and venture into the great Lake Nockamixon!

6. Peace Valley – Peace Valley is indeed as tranquil as it sounds. The 14 miles of trails are surrounded by vast wildlife and the glorious Lake Galena. Spend a day here running the trails then cool off near the lake!
