Where to Buy a Local Turkey for Your Thanksgiving Cooking Style

It’s almost the time of year to give thanks for what we have and feast on all the traditional favorites.

Whether you are an organic eater, veg-friendly/ vegan or want the easy route, these three Philadelphia locations easy to make a Thanksgiving meal that appeals to everyone.

Where to Get a Local Thanksgiving Meal for your cooking style

For the DIY: Fair Food Farmstand – Reading Terminal Market

51 N 12th St. Philadelphia, PA 19107

Fair Food Farmstand sells a variety of organic and naturally-raised turkeys in the Reading Terminal Market.

Their high-quality products mean they’re flying off the shelf, but luckily, their naturally raised broad-breasted white turkeys are in stock. These large turkeys come straight from a small farm in Downingtown, PA where they are grown naturally, fed a vegetarian diet, and are never injected with hormones or antibiotics.

For the Vegans: Miss Rachel’s Pantry

1938 S. Chadwick Street, Philadelphia

Miss Rachel’s Pantry is a South Philly vegan catering company that also provides cooking classes, pre-fixe dinners, public dinners, and private parties. They’ll even cook your vegan Thanksgiving feast!

Indulge in a pastry-wrapped Harvest Roast made with seitan, white beans, and an array of savory spices topped with truffle shiitake gravy. If someone in your family is gluten-free, Miss Rachel’s Pantry also offers a vegan, gluten-free turkey substitute made with tempeh-lentil. As if that doesn’t sound good enough, you also have the option to order sides including mashed potatoes, vegetables, and a brown sugar and cranberry bread stuffing.

The No-Stress Solution: Green Aisle Grocery

1618 East Passyunk Ave & 2241 Grays Ferry Ave

Green Aisle Grocery has been providing Philadelphians with local, organic, and gourmet food – both sourced and store creations – since 2009.

This Thanksgiving season, Green Aisle Grocery is providing their customers with Green Meadow Farm’s fresh birds, raised on pasture in Lancaster County. Pre-order your organic turkey and traditional sides by hand-selecting your Thanksgiving options online. You’ll have the option to pick up your delicious, organic dinner from their East Passyunk location or their Grays Ferry location. After you pick up your pre-made meal, all you have to do is set the table and pour the wine to get ready!

Although the turkey (or faux-turkey) is a traditional part, remember that being around family and loved ones will result in the most ‘organic’ form of joy to make this season unforgettable.
