Cedar Point Bar & Kitchen Opens Tonight for Locavores!

Cedar Point Bar & Kitchen Kale Martini in Fishtown, PhiladelphiaOh, we’ve been a-waiting.

Cedar Point Bar & Kitchen, the Fishtown follow-up to the No’ Libs restaurant formally known as A Full Plate, finally opens this evening.

We were able to take a sneak peek & sample some of the delicious treats of Cedar Point. As Chef Shannon Dougherty explained, the menu is 50/50 vegan and carnivore to satisfy all customers. And satisfied, we were.

Cedar Point Bar & Kitchen: Food Highlights

To make Jack Johnson proud, we took mental pretty pictures of the things we ate… Some of my favorite parts of the preview? The Beet Raviolis with spinach and goat cheese a veggie delight to die for.  The chicken & cornmeal waffles with BBQ syrup were a carnivores delight, light and flavorful (as I sampled a bite). Vegan tuna fish sandwich? Definitely a great sustainable alternative to the favorite fish we typically eat. The vegan cheese plate was flavorful as a vegan alternative. Fried brussel sprouts with a horseradish apricot sauce knocked my socks off, and the homemade veggie chips outdid the Terra favs.

Want to knock back a cocktail or beer? The drinks pair perfectly with the menu. I started off with a Kale Martini, which was a great veggie-based accompaniment to start the evening (and delicious)! The beer list was impressive as well, which In Search of Beer describes perfectly in his recap. (We were pleased to meet the man behind ISOB & his lovely wife Leanne during the event.)

Cedar Point Bar & Kitchen Sustainability Efforts

A locavore’s delight, Cedar Point sources all the foods locally from partners including Greensgrow, Sweet Stem Farm and Teens4Good. Teens4Good is an impressive cause as well – they take vacant lots and mentor teens to turn them into urban farms. In fact, many of the proceeds from A Full Plate donated to this amazing cause.

Cedar Point Bar & Kitchen also adds to Philadelphia’s sustainable restaurant scene. Old pie tins serving as the light fixtures were Chef Shannon’s grandmother’s, previously from a bakery in Fishtown. Old boxes, doors & glass are all upcycled materials. They definitely remind me of the eco-hoarder in myself, collecting interesting goods to use for decorations. The recycled details include this charming silverware rack on their bathroom door:

With an impressive brunch, lunch & dinner menu, this spot is sure not to disappoint. And gives a great alternative to those impatient from the long lines at Loco Pez across the street.

  1. I love that Philly has such a great restaurant scene. My brother lives just outside the city, so I’ll have to let him know about this new place. Thanks for the heads up!
