United by Blue’s Graffiti Pier Cleanup!
July 15, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pmfree
Graffiti Pier exists as the ruins of a coal loading dock once known as Pier 124. The abandoned concrete structure now stands as a canvas for street artists, an inspiration for photographers, and a popular hangout for fisherman. Hidden down a dirt path, covered by overgrown brush, Graffiti Pier offers one of the best views of the Philadelphia skyline in Port Richmond/ Fishtown. Unfortunately, this hidden colorful gem is littered with glass bottles, old aerosol cans and fishing line, contaminating the river and surrounding ecosystem. We need your help to cleanup the Delaware River and Graffiti pier to restore the beauty of this Philadelphia treasure and artistic haven.
United By Blue will provide all of the cleanup supplies. All volunteers will also have the chance to win United By Blue prizes during two cleanup games. Please be sure to wear closed toe shoes and clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty or wet! Groups of all sizes are welcome!
In addition, we are thrilled to announce that Conrad Benner of Streets Dept. will be joining UBB and partners for this cleanup! Conrad will be discussing street art, graffiti, urban exploration, and the importance of Graffiti Pier to the Philadelphia community.
