July 11, 2021 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Take a TREE-mendous tour of our park’s biggest and most abundant assets with Fairmount Park Conservancy. On these hikes, we’ll learn to identify trees usually found in Philly’s urban forest from the leaves, the bark. We’ll take time to observe the body language of trees – why they grow the way they grow, and what we can learn about the life of the forest. And we’ll pepper our conversation with tree trivia related to history, culture, economy and uses. The first step towards stewardship is learning the name of what you care for. You’ll finish the tour a bit more empowered to care about Philly’s trees. LOCATIONS:
- July 11: West Fairmount Park: Trees of the Trolley Trail – moderate-difficult hike. Meet in front of Chamounix Hostel. 3250 Chamounix Dr, Philadelphia, PA 19131 — hike begins in a tree-rrific location, at the oldest tagged tree in the park system – the circa 1805 American Ash next to Chamonix Hostel!
- August 21: FDR Park: Around the Lakes & Meadows– easier hike. Meet on the steps of the Boathouse (parking across the drive).
