The Hidden History of the Schuylkill Center

May 21, 2015 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Free

We often boast that, at 340 acres, the Schuylkill Center is Philadelphia’s largest protected open space. But we almost didn’t exist. Incredibly, the farmland that became the Schuylkill Center was shortlisted as a site for the United Nations in the 1940s.  Later, planners wanted Roxborough’s Cathedral Avenue to continue down our driveway and end at a bridge over the Schuylkill River to the Main Line—a bridge that was even designed , but never built. Director Mike Weilbacher presents the extraordinary hidden history of the Center, and the mysteries behind things that (happily!) never were.

In Partnership with Hidden City Philadelphia.
