Slow Art Day at Glen Foerd

April 10, 2021 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Slow Art Day is a global event with a simple mission: help more people discover the joy of looking at and loving art.

Glen Foerd is pleased to participate in Slow Art Day 2021. We have selected five paintings for your slow looking experience, which will be positioned in different areas of the house to allow for physical distancing. After a period of prolonged viewing, participants come together to discuss the experience and the art works in a conversation facilitated by executive director Ross Mitchell. Glen Foerd will be open on the day at 10:00AM, and Slow Art Day programming will begin at 11:00AM, with the culminating conversation taking place at 12:00PM.

Ross Mitchell is the Executive Director of Glen Foerd, bringing extensive experience with arts appreciation and educational programming. He is the former Director of Barnes-de Mazia Education and Outreach Programs in Philadelphia as well as former Gallery Director for the Barnes Foundation in Merion Station. For eight years he was the Executive Director of the Violette de Mazia Foundation, whose mission was to teach aesthetics and art appreciation. Mr. Mitchell started his career as a painter.

Registration for this event is required. The event is free to all, with a suggested donation of $10. If you’d like to make a donation, choose the “donation ticket” option in Eventbrite.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Glen Foerd stewards an eclectic riverfront estate for the enjoyment and educational benefit of the community. Drawing from the estate’s architecture, art, material culture, and history—as well as its gardens and waterways—Glen Foerd provides inclusive experiences that spark curiosity and support Philadelphia’s natural and cultural ecosystems.
We work with Philadelphia Parks and Recreation to steward 18 acres of riverfront land and the buildings upon it, including the last gilded age mansion along the Delaware River that is open to the public. Glen Foerd is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Our grounds also qualify as a historic arboretum, and are open to the public every day from 8AM to dusk.
