Rethinking City Hall Courtyard: Options for the Future

July 13, 2017 @ 7:00 am - 8:30 am

Currently the Kenney Administration has a grant to implement short-term animation strategies for City Hall courtyard. In 2015-2016 the Center City District retained Wallace Roberts & Todd (WRT) to work in partnership with City agencies and SEPTA to develop a vision for long-term improvements that might be synchronized with the next phase of renovation work for the Broad Street subway station. Paul R. Levy, President of the Center City District will discuss the findings and recommendations from the WRT work.

Joining him will be Alan Urek, Philadelphia’s deputy commissioner for Planning, Stephanie Chiorean of the Philadelphia Water Department and city planner Ian Litwin to discuss improvements, investments, plans and programs for the courtyard and other public spaces around City Hall. Principal among these is the recent installation of an exciting new seasonal, multi-purpose performance space, flexible seating and planters, including innovative features that demonstrate best stormwater- management practices.
