FORMER HS DROPOUTS JOIN THE COMMUNITY TO EXPLORE POSSIBILITIES FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY IN PHILADELPHIA

March 14, 2018 @ 10:30 am - 1:00 pm

Free
Former high school dropouts from YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School will host a Solar Summit to discuss their microgrid project and renewable energy possibilities with the community.
WHO: YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School students and staff will lead
a discussion about renewable energy solutions in Philadelphia
with partners from Temple University, Drexel University,
Penn State University, members of City Council and a few CEOs of
local corporations.
WHAT: Students from YouthBuild Philadelphia will lead a Solar Summit at
The Hive at Springpoint (30 S 15th St. Philadelphia, PA) to
exchange ideas with community partners on how to work together
to construct a microgrid that will help Philadelphia move one step
closer to renewable energy.
During the discussion, students will share their plans
for a solar farm project that will sustain power for a Nicetown
community organization. Additionally, students will conduct a
performance that will give special attention to the impact of global
warming on the planet.
“This summit is a chance for adult leaders and our young people
to come together to explore how serious the climate crisis is for
our world, and also for the communities that our young people
exist in everyday. We must engage our students as part of the
solution to climate change on an economic, social and personal
level. We want YouthBuild students to see that there are jobs and
solutions to the problems that exist, and they can be the agents of
change,” said YouthBuild Phillly Director of Vocational Training,
Marty Molloy.
Students, staff and some community partners will be available for interview.
