BodyRide Spin & Barre Studio in Limerick, Pennsylvania is hosting a Charity Ride to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Out of the Darkness Overnight Walk. AFSP is a non-profit organization whose mission is to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. The Out of the Darkness Overnight Walk will take place on June 16, 2018, with overnight ceremonies being held at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. From dusk to dawn, individuals will walk 16-miles through the streets of Philadelphia, while raising awareness suicide prevention. According to a 2017 comprehensive examination produced by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the risk for suicide is 22% higher among Veterans when compared to U.S. non-Veteran adults, 19% higher among male Veterans when compared to U.S. non-Veteran adult men, and 2.5 times higher among female Veterans when compared to U.S. non-Veteran adult women.
The indoor spin class is dedicated to raising awareness and support for those affected by suicide, and several BodyRide community members will be participating. Reservations are required, with a $10 minimum donation. Proceeds from the charity ride will benefit AFSP’s research, education, advocacy, and support for survivors of suicide loss.
