Beekeeping 101

September 28, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

$35

Registration required. Whether you are an experienced beekeeper, a new beekeeper, or in the thinking stage of starting a backyard hive, this workshop will take you through the ins and outs of managing honey bees. Don Shump, owner of the Philadelphia Bee Company and Greensgrow’s own beekeeper, will share his years of experience as an urban apiarist in Philadelphia and walk you through what to expect during a beekeeper’s typical first year. Don will also talk about local resources available to help you succeed. Plenty of time will be allotted for discussion; please be prepared to ask questions. The class will touch base on Bee Biology, Bee Behavior, Hive Management, Swarming, Equipment and Bee Products.

As we become increasingly aware of where our food is coming from, climate change, and honey bee loses more and more people are taking up beekeeping to make their own honey, have pollinators for their gardens, and to offset die offs of honey bee populations in recent years. Find out what the buzz is all about!

PLEASE NOTE: Cancellations within 72 hours of the start of class are nonrefundable or transferable. Workshop refunds and transfers requested earlier than 72 hours before the class start time will be charged a $5.00 processing fee.
