Philadelphia Area CSA Groups : Plenty of Local Food to Enjoy!

Spring is almost here and it’s time to consider where you’ll get your local spring and summer produce. Community supported agriculture groups (CSAs) are one of the best ways!

CSAs are a great way to get your produce directly from a local farm and cut out the middle man (grocers.)

I love implementing the farm to table concept in my own kitchen, and have discovered lots of new veggies and fruit via CSA programs (rhubarb, swiss chard, and purple peppers to name a few!)

Check out some of the CSA options for the Philadelphia area:

  • J & J Farm, Glen Mills: Offers fruit, vegetables, dairy, coffee, herbs, flowers and moreContact information available at local harvest.
  • Greensgrow Farm, Philadelphia (Kensington): Fruits, vegetables, baked goods, and meat & eggs from nearby farms.  Spring CSA open now! Sign up here.
  • Mill Creek Farm, Philadelphia: Vegetables, fruits, nuts/seeds and honey available. Mill Creek also has an open farmer’s market Wednesdays from 1-5pm at 52nd and Haverford Ave.
  • Weaver’s Way Co-Op, Chesnut Hill & Mt. Airy: Weaver’s Way functions as a membership co-op meaning the food stores are owned by members and in turn prices are lower then most grocery stores. And, the food is fresher! Weaver’s Way provides locally grown produce, dried nuts, spices, cheese, eggs, bread and more. Go here for membership details.

Readers, any other CSA options you’re exploring?
